Asphalt Parking Lot in Los Altos Has Mickey Mouse Sighting

This past weekend there was a sighting of Mickey Mouse in a parking lot in Los Altos. Now most of you are thinking, what would Mickey Mouse be doing in Los Altos? This was not the famous Disneyland character known to children of all ages as Mickey Mouse, but it was the work of a "Mickey Mouse" Asphalt Paving Company.

Take a look at the photo below. I'm sure that the management company hired the asphalt paving contractor to repair a problem. But this contractor performed a classic example of what we call, "Mickey Mouse" patchwork. They chose to patch an isolated area and leave the area surrounding the patch still damaged and broken. Clearly the company that performed this work wasn't interested in solving the problem, they chose instead to ensure that they would get called back to repair this patch again and again. Often the owners and managers of properties do not understand that this type of work costs them more in the long run. The area around this patch is severely alligatored and will need repair probably before the year is done.

There are a lot of good asphalt paving contractors in the Bay Area, but this is a prime example of what should not be done. The good contractors know what good quality work is and what it costs. It is the "Mickey Mouse" asphalt paving contractors who are in for the quick buck and the quality of the work shows exactly how much pride they take in their work. When I am out around town I see this type of work and shake my head to wonder why customers continue to pay for this type of work. Perhaps they simply just don't know the simple mantra of all good asphalt paving contractors, "You get what you pay for!"
